Biography
John T. Bird, Jr. was born on March 14, 1944 to Mr. and Mrs. John Bird. His home of record is Summit, NJ. He had one sister, Barbara.
His nickname was “Jack.” Bird graduated from Summit High School in 1963.He worked as a clerk at New York Life Insurance Co. and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping.
He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). He began his tour on Jan. 8, 1966 as a member of the 17th Aviation Company, 1st Cavalry Division of the “Sky Troopers.”
Bird was listed as missing on October 6 and declared killed in action on October 4, 1966. He was survived by his parents and sister.
