Biography


David J. Scharibone was born on December 19, 1946.  His home of record is Trenton, NJ.  He had two sisters, Debra and Tracy. 

David was employed by Korvettes and Castranova Beauty Supply Company while in high school. One month after graduation from Hamilton High School, he enlisted for a two-year hitch with the US Marine Corps.

Scharibone attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).  He served with M Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division.

On March 12, 1967, Scharibone was wounded in the hand and leg while fighting near Chu Lai.  He was back in action twelve days later.  He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Scharibone was killed in action on May 13, 1967, while fighting near the Demilitarized Zone.  He died of head and chest wounds.  He is buried in the Ewing Church Cemetery. 

He was survived by his parents, sisters, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

His name appears on the Veterans' Memorial at Hamilton High School West in Hamilton, NJ, along with the six other graduates from that school that were killed in Vietnam.
