Biography


George A. Baker was born on May 31, 1945.  In the 8th grade, at the age of 15, George was voted Class Roughneck.  His home of record is Little Ferry, NJ.

Baker enlisted in the US Army to become part of the Green Berets.  He attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4).

During training, his leg was injured.  He was transferred to a light transport division.  He asked for a discharge and re-enlisted as a Ranger for duty in Vietnam.

Baker went to Vietnam as a mechanic in September 1968. 

On January 29, 1969, Baker was killed in action in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam, when his patrol came under heavy fire.  In July 1969, he was awarded four posthumous medals.
