Biography


Walter J. Chrupcala was born on April 28, 1947, and attended Palmyra High School in Palmyra, NJ. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Chrupcala. He entered the US Navy where he attained the rank of Storekeeper Second Class (SK2). He enlisted in April of 1966.

On April 15, 1968, at the age of 20, Walter Chrupcala was killed in action in South Vietnam. In a freak accident, he fell off the dock and drowned while loading supplies on a ship at Da Nang. His promotion papers came the next day.

The 1968 Palmyra High School Yearbook was dedicated to Chrupcala and three other soldiers that were killed in Vietnam, including Anthony J. Salerno, Weldon J. Miles, and Udo Hannigan. Walter is buried at Beverly National Cemetery. Besides his parents, he was survived by three brothers, Marine Cpl. Edward, Johan and Charles, and two sisters, Jeanne and Donna.
