Biography


Roy D. Hutting was born on December 16, 1946. His home of record is Emerson, NJ. Roy attended Emerson High School. Prior to serving in the military, Roy lived with his sister and brother in law in Emerson.

Hutting enlisted in the Army and served with the 25th Infantry Division. He attained the rank of Sergeant. During his first tour of duty, he was an aerial gunner for Shotgun Platoon XI (11). He received an Air Medal on October 25, 1965, as well as a Bronze Star Medal. He was wounded twice in Vietnam, but volunteered to return for a second tour of duty.

On September 25, 1966, on his second tour in South Vietnam, the personnel carrier Roy was riding through the jungle on rolled over a mine, killing him instantly.

Roy was survived by his mother, Mrs. Herman Hutting, two brothers, Herman and Richard, a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and Frank Gartiser, and sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Jim Langford. His brother, Herman, was serving in Vietnam at the time of his death.

In 1987, Emerson High awarded Roy Hutting a posthumous honorary degree. His name was added to the NJ Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in May 2008.
