Biography

Frank David Moorman was born September 8, 1948.  He came from a large family of 8 girls and 3 boys.  His home of record is Clifton, NJ.  Frank graduated high school in 1067.

Moorman enlisted in the US Army.  He took his basic and advanced training and then went on to jump school for his paratrooper's badge.

On arrival in Vietnam, Moorman was assigned to Company D, 35th Infantry Division serving in Pleiku Province.  He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT).

On January 23, 1969, Moorman, having been wounded in action, was placed on a medivac helicopter for transport to a field hospital.  As the aircraft lifted off and attempted to leave the area, it was struck by enemy fire, exploded and crashed.  Because of the combat situation and the difficult terrain, the helicopter crew and all passengers were not recovered.  They were listed as missing in action.

Not until 7 years later, on April 8, 1976, did a recovery team uncover the crash site and identify all who were on board the helicopter.  During this time, according to US Army regulations, Frank was promoted to his final rank of SSGT and listed as killed in action.

Moorman was laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery.
