Biography


Walter Phillip Seel, Jr. was born October 3, 1946, to his parents, Walter Sr. and Evelyn Seel. He had a brother, J. Marshall, and a sister, Joanne. His home of record is Moorestown, NJ. He attended Moorestown Senior High School and graduated in 1965. Walter was a member of the Boy Scouts and was president of his church youth group. He was a member of the high school baseball team and enjoyed drawing and art.

After graduation, Walter went to Pennsylvania to enlist in the US Navy where he attained the rank of Hospital Corpsman Second Class (HM2) and eventually was assigned to Vietnam.

On February 25, 1969, Seel was killed in action. He was 22 years old.

Seel was posthumously awarded the Silver Star Medal for heroism. A building at the Philadelphia Naval Base, now called Seel Hall, is also dedicated to him.
