Biography


Harold Holmes was born on March 3, 1947.  His home of record is Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Holmes. He attended School #15 and Snyder High School where he was on the track team. He played football around the block and he sang, not with a group but on his own for his amusement. He imitated his favorites, The Temptations and the Four Tops. He was working for General Motors in Linden but he wanted to go into the service so badly, he volunteered.

He entered the service last May and received basic training at Fort Dix, Fort Bragg, Fort Jackson, and Fort Benning. In November 1967 he was ordered to Vietnam with Company D of the 503rd Airborne Infantry. Three days before he left, he married the former Dolores McNair whom he had known in Jersey City for more than two years. .

Holmes was killed in action on his 21st birthday March 3, 1968. He is buried at Machpelah Cemetery in North Bergen, NJ. He is also survived by his two brothers Jimmy and Ralph and his sister Mrs. Maxine Brown. In his mother's words, "He was a Good, Kind Boy with Lots of Friends".
