Biography


Robert L. Janowitz was born on September 27, 1944, to Dr. and Mrs. Aaron J. Janowitz. His home of record is Glen Rock, NJ. While a student at the University of Maryland, he helped to organize a group to support the cause of the war.

Janowitz enlisted in the US Army in 1966, and attained the rank of First Lieutenant (1LT). He repeatedly requested assignment to Vietnam until he was sent there in the fall of 1967. He served as commander of Company D, 11th Infantry Brigade in Chu Lai. When his tour of duty was over, he extended his stay for six months.

Janowitz was killed in action on September 18, 1968. A memorial service was held on September 29, 1968, at Temple Israel in Ridgewood, NJ.
