Biography


John Harold Tomeny was born on November 2, 1946. His home of record is Hackensack, NJ. He graduated from Hackensack High School. His high school yearbook reads:
Irish...his honesty and friendliness are appreciated...talks about everything..."You're kidding"...dislikes show-offs and loves people...prizes his car...the Service and college lie in his future.

Tomeny and his family had emigrated from Ireland and been in this country about ten years when John was drafted.

He served in the US Army and attained the rank of Specialist 5 (SP5).

Tomeny was killed in action on May 22, 1968, while on guard duty in Tay Ninh.

The following is an excerpt from The Record dated Monday, January 29, 1973:

John Tomeny, a native of Dublin, had lived in this country about 10 years before entering military service.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Tomeny, he arrived in the United States in 1957. He was graduated from Hackensack High School in 1965 and was a member of Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Hackensack.

He planned to become an aeronautical engineer.

In May 1968, Army Spec. 4 Tomeny died as a result of wounds received while on guard duty in Tay Ninh. He was 21.
