Biography

Edward J. Delikat, Jr. was born on April 13, 1949. His home of record is Bayonne, NJ. Edward was a graduate of Lincoln School and Bayonne High School.

Delikat was drafted into the US Army on April 29, 1969, from Bayonne, NJ, and took his basic and advanced training at Fort Dix. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4).

Delikat wrote a letter that reached his parents the day before the Defense Department telegram informed them their son was dead. In the letter, Delikat wrote that he "was feeling fine." He told his parents that time "was going quickly."

According to his father, Delikat never complained about life in Vietnam. Delikat, Sr. said his son wrote that his outfit often flew into the mountains in helicopters. But, the elder Delikat added, his son never told them that he was in action. .

Edward Delikat served 8 months in Vietnam. On May 13, 1970, at the age of 21, Delikat was killed in action while on patrol. His outfit was ambushed while returning to its base near Duc Pho in South Vietnam, Quang Ngai Province.

He is buried in North Arlington Cemetery.
