Biography


Joseph B. Oliphant, Jr. was born May 19, 1948, to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Oliphant, Sr.  His home of record is Ventnor City, NJ.  He had two sisters, Edna May and Carol Ann.  He attended the Troy Avenue School, the Ventnor Avenue School and Atlantic City High School. 

Oliphant entered the US Army where he attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC/E2) and served as a paratrooper in the 173rd Airborne Brigade. 

On February 25, 1969, at the age of 21, Oliphant was killed in action in Phu Yen, South Vietnam.  His body was recovered from the hostile area after an exchange of small arms fire.  His tour of duty was to finish on March 31, 1969.
