Biography

Richard A. Green was born on December 15, 1948, in Pottstown, PA, to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Green.  Shortly after his birth, his parents moved to Glen Rock, NJ.  His home of record is Glen Rock, NJ.  Richard graduated from Glen Rock High School in June 1966.  Richard was one of two senatorial appointees to West Point.

Green served in the US Army and arrived in Vietnam on October 11, 1971.  He attained the rank of First Lieutenant (1LT).

At the age of 22, Green was killed in action while serving as platoon leader with F Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment on December 3, 1971, in South Vietnam.  He was part of what the Army defined as a battlefield mishap.

A posthumous award ceremony was held at West Point on May 23, 1972, at which time his parents were presented with several awards and decorations earned by their son, one of which was the Bronze Star with a V for Valor.

Green is buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Passaic County, NJ.
