Biography
Wayne H. Russellwas born on August 10, 1948, to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Russell. His home of record is Rutherford, NJ. He graduated from high school in 1967, where he played a year of varsity high school football. Wayne had a keen interest in cars and worked at a service station before entering the service.
He enlisted in the US Army in October 1967, and attained the rank of Specialist 4 (SP4). Russell was assigned to the 192nd Assault Helicopter Company as a helicopter gunner.
Russell was killed in action on March 31, 1969. Just six weeks prior, in February 1969, he was wounded in combat but was sent back to his unit once he had recovered.
