Biography

James L. Giegel was born on June 5, 1949, to Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Giegel. His home of record is Wyckoff, NJ. He had four brothers. After graduating high school, James attended two colleges but soon decided collegiate life was not for him. He decided to follow in the footsteps of his older brother, Patrick, who was decorated and had served with the 101st Airborne in Vietnam.

James enlisted in the US Marine Corps and attained the rank of Lance Corporal (LCPL). Giegel was assigned to Combined Action Program 2-4-1.

Giegel was killed in action on May 26, 1970. He was carrying supplies to Marines in the field when he was caught in a Viet Cong ambush near Danang.

The town of Wyckoff named Giegel Court in his memory.
