Biography


Frederic R. Delange was born on February 7, 1946, in New York City. His home of record is Lincoln Park, NJ. His family moved to Lincoln Park in 1950. He had one brother, William. Frederic attended St. Joseph's Parochial School and Boonton High School. He was an altar boy at St. Joseph's Church and a Boy Scout. Frederic worked at Welsh Farms in Caldwell, NJ, and at Green Acres Nursery before enlisting in the Army in May 1965.

Delange served in the US Army and attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC). He trained at Fort Dix, NJ, and Fort Polk, LA. He was sent to Vietnam on December 24, 1965 and assigned to Company B, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, Pleiku, Vietnam.

Delange was killed in action on February 12, 1966. Another New Jersey resident, Robert Catling, was part of the same unit. Catling was killed in action on July 3, 1966.

Delange was awarded numerous decorations and medals including the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation.

He was survived by his mother, Mrs. Stanley Delange DeWitt, and his father, William Delange.
