This Year’s Theme:
“The Times They Are a-Changin'”
Keri A. Giannotti, our Museum Educator will be presenting “A History of the Draft: A Changing Context in the Vietnam War Era” during the New Jersey Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference on Monday October 22nd at the Busch Campus at Rutgers University.
Thanks to a longtime partnership with the New Jersey Council for Social Studies and their Executive Director Hank Bitten, the NJVVMF has been approved to present for their 2018 Conference “The Times They Are A-Changin'”
The session description is as follows: The Draft was most controversial during the Vietnam Era. When the war started there were Draft Boards which heard draft appeals. However, as the war raged on the Draft Lottery. In this presentation, we will have a presentation from some of our Vietnam Veteran Volunteers; one who was drafted, one who enlisted, and one who was drafted and then enlisted. From there we will discuss the changing process from Draft Boards to Lotteries. Teachers will leave with a copy of our Draft Board Simulation to take right into their classrooms.
Keri will be presenting during Session Three from 12:05 to 1:05
