Biography

Roger A. Ross was born on May 6, 1946, to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Ross.  His home of record is Moorestown, NJ.  Roger had one brother, Edward.  He graduated from Moorestown High School in 1964, and took flying lessons even before becoming a pilot.  He went on to attend Drexel Institute of Technology, until 1967, when he dropped out to enlist.

Ross served in the US Army and attained the rank of Warrant Officer (WO).  He completed his training at Fort Walters and Hunter Air Force Base, both in Texas.  He was assigned to 92nd Assault Helicopter Company, 10th Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade.

Ross was killed in action on December 24, 1968.  He had been in country only two weeks.  He was one of seven men that died when the UH-1H of the 92nd Assault Helicopter Company was downed by enemy ground fire near Lien Khang airfield, south of Dalat in Tuyen Duc Province.  The 92nd AHC was supporting an ARVN operation in the area and had just taken off from a remote landing area.  Ross was the copilot of the crew.
