Biography


George V. Szczepanczyk was born in Italy on February 7, 1948, to Ted and Vivian Szczepanczyk.  His home of record is Paterson, NJ.  He came to the United States with his family when he was three years old.  George had two younger sisters, Christine and Irene.  George attended St. Anthony Grammar School and Don Bosco High School.  His family later moved to Saddle Brook in 1966. 

Szczepanczyk was drafted into the US Army on October 9, 1967.  On March 23, 1968, he was sent to Vietnam and received the Purple Heart Medal in May 1968, for wounds he received in battle.  He attained the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

In September, Szczepanczyk was fatally wounded by grenade fragments.  He died on September 2, 1968.
