Class Field Trips

Why Bring Your Class Here?

Class trips at the Memorial and Museum offer students unique opportunities to hear first-hand accounts and perspectives about the Vietnam War and Era.

Since 1998, we have hosted over 120,000 students and educators, representing the region’s diverse school districts. Many have participated in our educational programs for over a decade.

Our programs supplement and enhance classroom instruction through the integration of NJ State Department of Education Core Curriculum Content Standards and cross-disciplinary learning.

We rely on Vietnam Veterans to help us educate the students and educators of New Jersey and the region.  Our tour guides come from all over the state.  Many are retired educators. The factual information provided to the students during their visits is enhanced by their personal stories.  When asked what they remember most about their tour, most students say it was the Vietnam Veteran who took the time to share his/her story and the deeper understanding they have as a result.

Educational programs are central to our work. Using New Jersey as a microcosm of what happened on a larger scale; the Foundation provides resources and exhibits to help students and educators understand the significance of the Memorial, the reality of the conflict, and the social, political and cultural complexities of the War years and how they were experienced in New Jersey.

What You Can Expect:

Guided tours of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum & Educational Center in Holmdel are available to any group of 15 or more people.  These guided tours are led by Vietnam Veteran volunteers who share their personal experiences.  Guided tours must be arranged prior to your visit.

Tours are approximately 1-1/2 hours long, but can be expanded up to 3 hours.  Class trips usually start at either 9:30 AM or 11:30 AM, Monday through Friday, but we are very flexible and can work with your schedule and needs.  Tours can be customized to any age group.

Because March through June is our peak school season, it is advisable to book a tour early in the school year as time slots fill quickly. It is suggested to book a year in advance if possible.

Tours for other groups including adult, college, youth and scouts can be arranged by special appointment.  These tours can be tailored to include just the Memorial or Museum.  We can arrange these tours to meet each groups special needs. Email Michele Knell or call 732 – 335 – 0033 x 108 for more information.
