Just the Facts: Understanding Statistics, Research, and the Truth about the Vietnam War for the Classroom

In the age of the internet, statistics on the Vietnam War are ever-changing and often inaccurate. Join us to discover the facts and how to help your students properly conduct research on the Vietnam War. We will also discuss activities that use a multi-media approach to find the truth about the Vietnam War.
Workshop includes:
Keynote speaker, Reference Archivist Amy Mondt (The Vietnam Archive at Texas Tech University) Two morning sessions on researching the Vietnam War and understanding statistics to better assist students with their study of the Vietnam War.
Tour of the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial with a Vietnam Veteran
Afternoon Sessions:

o Seeing is Believing? Using Photographs to Find the Truth

using the educational tools and practices of the Vietnam Era Museum and Educational Center.

A dynamic discussion about teaching the 1960s in the classroom.

Teaching Oral History Workshop

Oral History helps preserve the stories of the past.
Utilizing the resources of the Memorial and Vietnam Era Museum and Educational Center, educators will perform
mock interviews with Vietnam Veterans and receive techniques for practical application for their classroom.
Workshop includes:
Optional pre- or post- program tour of the Memorial with a Vietnam Veteran
Presentation on using oral history as an educational tool in the classroom
Mock interview with Vietnam Veteran
Handouts, bibliographies, and references for further study
Professional Credits provided
