The NJ Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial and the Vietnam Era Educational Center is always looking for new volunteers to assist us throughout the year.  Below are the vital volunteer positions we are looking to fill:

Front Desk Volunteers - We are looking for friendly people who are interested in working at the front desk of the Educational Center.  Tasks include welcoming visitors, taking admissions, ringing up gift shop sales, answering questions, etc.  Other tasks may be assigned as they come up.  Volunteers must be comfortable talking with people and have the ability to use a simple cash register (we will tutor you!).  You should also enjoy speaking with visitors and responding to inquiries.

Volunteers for this position are needed for our regular operating hours:  Tuesday – Friday, from 10 AM – 4 PM.  You can choose which days you would like to work and what hours are best for you.  You do not need to commit to a whole day, we generally split it into two shifts - 10 AM - 1 PM and 1PM  - 4 PM.

Library Assistant – We would love to find some volunteers to assist in cataloging and organizing our growing library collection.  This includes, but is not limited to, researching book information, inputting data and reviewing existing catalog entries for books, videos, etc.  If you have a love of books and a limited comfort level working with computers, this is a job for you.  We will train you on our library software.  This job is also good for those who prefer to work independently.

Volunteers for this position can work during our normal business hours: Monday – Friday, from 10 AM to 4 PM.  Once you have been trained, Saturdays are also an option, from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Vietnam Veterans Tour Guides - We always need Vietnam Veterans to play an active role in educating the students of New Jersey.  Volunteer tour guides are crucial participants in our school tours.  All of the factual information provided to the students during their visit is enhanced by your personal story.  Students want to hear your experiences to make the history come alive.

Typical questions include:
How old were you when you went to Vietnam?
Did you want to go?
What did you do in Vietnam?
What do you remember most?

These questions often take a conversation into a dozen different directions.  When asked what they remember most about their tour, 99% of the students say it was the Vietnam Veteran who took the time to share his/her story.

We will provide you with everything you need including training as well as the facts about the Memorial and the Educational Center.

Vietnam Veterans tour guides need to be available Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM.  We generally try to schedule two (2) tours a day during our busy season, 9:30 – 11:00 AM and 11:30 AM – 1 PM.  Our busiest time of year is March – June.  We may ask you to work one or both tours, depending on the number of students visiting with each school group

If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering in one of these roles for the Memorial and Educational Center, please call Ken Gurbisz at 732-335-0033 x 103 or email him at  .  We look forward to having you join our team.
