David enlisted in the Navy to serve his country. He served it well, doing a year of duty in Vietnam and earning the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver and 4 Bronze Stars. He suffered many emotional problems as a result of his tour and unfortunately became drug addicted. He committed suicide on January 29, 1990.

David G. Volk was inducted into the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans' Memorial IN MEMORY Program, which honors New Jerseyans who served and died as a result of the war in Vietnam but whose names are not on the Memorial.
